Do we need in-room tablets?

Hotels ask whether every room needs a tablet. Guests already carry a phone — a room QR opens Avant for check-in, stay info, and requests. Optional hardware is not the requirement.

When operations plans a digital concierge, the first question is often hardware: do we need a tablet in every room? Fleet cost, charging docks, OS updates, and lost or ignored devices pile up before a guest ever opens the stay path. Many guests leave the hotel tablet on the nightstand and use their own phone anyway.

You do not need a tablet per room for the guest experience to work. A room QR opens Avant on the phone the guest already carries — check-in and check-out, stay info, local experiences, room service, and requests. Staff answer on Porte; you publish once in the CMS. The digital concierge lives on the guest’s device, not on hardware you have to stock and maintain.

In-room tablets can still be an option for a floor or a brand standard. They are not the default path, and they are not what makes the product run. Phone-first keeps the desk free of “where is the tablet charger?” tickets and matches how guests already move through a stay.

If cost enters the conversation, occupancy pricing fits that path: €0.25 per occupied room per day, capped at €7 per room — empty rooms do not pay for idle seats or idle devices.
